NextGeneration 2007 Sustainability Benchmark Report launched.
Our name – Upstream – and our philosophy stem from a belief that issues are best tackled at source. This is nowhere truer than in the built environment, where decisions made now can shape the environment and communities for many years to come.
We work with key players in the property sector to embed sustainability principles into all elements of the property process. At Upstream we combine a commitment to sustainability with an in-depth knowledge of the property sector, to translate concepts into useful advice that supports everyday business activities.
In all of our work we strive to embody the following core values:
Since 1997 we have been working to take peoples' thinking 'further upstream' so that sustainability becomes part of core business strategy - not a downstream 'bolt on' or a box to be ticked.
Sustainability means many things to many people. It is important to us that we have a clear definition of what sustainability means. We like Forum for the Future's definition, which runs thus:
"A dynamic process which enables all people to realise their potential and improve their quality of life in ways which simultaneously protect and enhance the Earth's life support systems"
